Team Morpurgo Activities

Author/Illustrator Visitor

This morning we have had author and illustrator, Liz Million, in to do an assembly and workshop. Team Morpurgo had an amazing time learning some drawing tips and having a go at doing drawings of our own. Lots of potential illustrators in our class, I think!

Science

We are learning about electricity in Science. We have worked in teams to build a circuit to include cells, bulb, buzzer and wires.

Careers

Today we have been having a career conversation with Jenny Meadows, who is an Olympic sports coach. It’s really interesting for the children to be able to see a wide range of jobs that could be available to them and what they might need to do in order to get there.

Celebrating 150 Years

To celebrate our school being 150 years old we had some visitors come in to deliver workshops from Beamish Museum. We could all dress up in clothes from the Victorian era. This afternoon, we have been studying some historical primary sources – the old admissions books, punishment book and letters and photos dating back 150 years. The children have enjoyed looking up family members, checking what people were punished for and reading the headteachers’ diaries.

French

This afternoon, in French, we have made a presentation about ourselves with lots of facts about us as individuals. We used our knowledge of the French language, dictionaries and a translate app to help us.

DT

In DT today we have been investigating how to strengthen T joints and thinking about what materials are best used to create a strong join. We marked the joints on how neat they looked and we measured how strong they were by how long it took me to try and pull them apart. Evie and Robyn won the strength challenge as I couldn’t take their joint apart at all. Well done, girls!

History

In History, we have been thinking about how various items represent what we know about the Vikings. We have also been listening to some Viking sagas and thinking about how they were the same and different.

Art

In Art we have looked at ways of drawing realistic facial features to include in our self portraits. We have done this using pencil only using shading and blending in different ways.

PE

In PE we have been learning handball. We have looked at the rules of the game, tactics, moving and different ways of throwing the ball.
