Food Awareness and Community Project

Pupils have enjoyed a special assembly with representatives from Tesco today.

As part of our SMSC (Spiritual Moral Social and Cultural) development and wider S.E.A.L. (Social and Emotional Aspects and Learning) curriculum, Stanley Crook Primary School has established a partnership with the Community Liaison Team at Tesco to develop children’s awareness of how important it is not to waste food, but also of the work of Food Banks in supporting local communities and vulnerable families.

The project will involve pupils working closely with the Liaison Team from Tesco, visiting Tesco to learn how to budget for family meals and also to support in collecting donations of food for the Tesco Food Bank. Later in the project, pupils will also have the opportunity to visit a local Food Bank to learn where the donated food goes to and who it helps to support in our community.

Because of our project, Tesco is now looking to develop the programme further which will explore these issues and ‘roll out’ to other primaries across County Durham!

Great work T.E.A.M. (Together Everyone Achieves More) Stanley Crook!
